All of our products are made with Sceletium tortuosum, grown in South Africa by the same grower.

What to consider when selecting a product

FORMAT. Powder is the most versatile: a micro-scoop or a milligram scale lets you set the serving where you want it, and it is the most affordable per serving. Encapsulated formulas are premeasured — no scoop, no scale, one capsule. The oil measures in drops rather than milligrams, so it is quick but less exact. The loose herb is unextracted plant material for tea and herbal blends, measured in whole grams.

ALKALOID PROFILE. Every extract powder and the oil are concentrated to 5% total alkaloids by weight; LIFT XR is concentrated to 16%. What changes between them is how that total is divided. A high mesembrine profile creates bright and outward effects. A high Δ7-mesembrenone profile creates restful effects. LIFT sets the three alkaloids out in full, and every extract page publishes its own profile.

Every lot is tested by an independent laboratory: alkaloid profile by HPLC, plus screening for heavy metals, pesticides, residual solvents, and microbial contamination.

Sourcing

Grown in South Africa without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. Sceletium falls under South Africa's Bioprospecting, Access and Benefit Sharing regulations and the Nagoya Protocol, because its use rests on Khoi and San traditional knowledge. Our grower holds the BABS permitting and the benefit-sharing agreement with the Khoi communities who hold that knowledge.

Common questions

Which one should I start with?

LIFT. It is our best-selling extract — 80% mesembrine, 40 servings, $40. If you would rather not measure anything, start with a Daily instead: one capsule, 20 to a pouch.

Powder, capsules, oil or herb — what actually changes?

How precisely you can set a serving, and how you take it. Powder is adjustable to the milligram. Encapsulated formulas are premeasured at one serving. The oil measures in drops. The herb is measured in whole grams and steeped as a tea.

How long before I feel it, and how long does it last?

Powder, oil and herb: onset is usually around 30 minutes, and effects last two to three hours. Capsules take 30 to 60 minutes because the capsule has to open first, then run the same two to three hours.

Can I take two of them together?

They carry the same three alkaloids, so taking two at once is a larger serving rather than a different effect. Start with one.

Can I take kanna with an antidepressant?

Not without talking to your prescriber first. Kanna's alkaloids act on serotonin, and combining serotonergic substances carries a real risk. This applies to SSRIs, SNRIs, MAO inhibitors, tricyclics, lithium, triptans, tramadol, dextromethorphan, St. John's Wort, and 5-HTP.

Is kanna legal?

Kanna is not a controlled substance in the United States and is sold here as a dietary supplement. Regulations differ by country, so check your local law before ordering internationally.

Important safety information

Kanna (Sceletium tortuosum) contains alkaloids with serotonergic activity. Do not use this product if you are taking an SSRI, SNRI, MAO inhibitor, tricyclic antidepressant, lithium, triptan, tramadol, dextromethorphan, St. John's Wort, 5-HTP, or any other serotonergic medication or supplement, unless you have first consulted the prescribing clinician. Combining serotonergic substances can cause serotonin syndrome, a rare but serious condition.
